Abstract
An essay was conducted to evaluate 200 scientific journals in the field of agricultural and natural resources sciences by Department of Agricultural and Natural Sciences, Iran Academy of Science (IAS) during 2016-17. Results showed that 57 journals can be categorized in the field of “Agronomy and Plant Breeding” (ecology: 10 journals; genetics and biotechnology: 8 journals; agronomy and plant breeding: 33 journals). 286 scientific papers (from 40 journals) were randomly evaluated by 3-7 academic members of agronomy discipline using 10 structural and 5 qualitative indices. Each paper received a separate score from each reviewer. Applying standard statistical methods on data ranked two journals (5%) as having high quality, 11 journals (27.5%) as good, 16 journals (40%) as intermediate and 10 journals (25%) as low quality and one of them (1.5%) ranked as very low-quality journal. According to five qualitative indices, three of them were selected for applied utility index, seven of them for publication necessity, six journals for update index, eight journals for innovation and six journals for scientific value index. Finally, these three journals were selected as high-quality scientific journals: Modern Genetics (in Farsi), Agronomy of Seed and Seedling (in Farsi), and Plant Physiology and Breeding.
