Abstract
The development of groundwater withdrawal, after receiving the pumping technology, triggered to depletion of watertables levels in many regions of the world. After that, many researches and studies in the fields of hydrology, management and governance of groundwater, have been conducted in order to accurately understand the concept of groundwater renewability and therefore determine the appropriate amount of withdrawal from these resources. Unfortunately, in Iran serious attention has not been given to the results of these studies. In this article, firstly, international experiences and findings are briefly reviewed. Then, the management of underground water in Iran, during the last decades, has been analyzed. At the end, some remedial solutions have been suggested.
